Planning a trip to Jamaica? Let’s get you prepped and ready so there are no surprises when you land in paradise.
I’m all about reducing travel stress and making sure you know what to expect before you get there—so let’s dive in!

These five knowledge nuggets will give you peace of mind and help you feel confident before you touch down on the island and will help you be a well-prepared traveler that will prep you on what to expect when you get there.
🛡️ 1. Jamaica is SAFE—especially in tourist-friendly areas
I hear this concern a lot, and I get it. Safety always comes first when you’re visiting a new destination.
Here’s the real scoop: Jamaica is very welcoming to tourists, and the major visitor hubs—Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, and Falmouth (a cruise port)—are generally very safe.
Most reported crime is local and not aimed at visitors. Of course, use common sense:
Stay alert
Stick to well-lit, populated areas
Avoid flashing valuables
✅ The U.S. Department of State currently considers Jamaica safe to visit.

🚗 2. Getting around can get pricey—unless you plan ahead
Staying at your resort? You’re good—just grab a taxi or hop on a local bus for nearby adventures.
Want to explore the island independently? Renting a car may be more cost-effective than piecing together taxis and transfers. Just keep in mind that Jamaicans drive on the left side of the road!
🎯 Pro tip: I can help you plan transportation that fits your itinerary and budget.

💧 3. Tap water is safe to drink!
No need to haul cases of bottled water—tap water in Jamaica is safe to drink, especially in hotels and resorts.
Bring your reusable water bottle and stay hydrated without the extra cost.

🗣️ 4. English is spoken—but with flavor
You won’t run into a language barrier here—English is Jamaica’s official language.
However, most locals speak an English-based creole called Patois (or “Patwa”)—a lively, expressive language full of culture. You'll catch on quick and might even enjoy learning a phrase or two.
✨ Bonus points if you try it out! Locals love the effort.

🚫 5. Expect timeshare offers—and feel free to say “no thanks”
You may get approached about timeshare presentations, especially at larger resorts or tourist attractions. They often promise free or discounted excursions in exchange for your time.
👉 You are not required to attend. A simple “No, thank you” keeps your vacation vibe going strong.
